In collaboration with the client COVRA, Delmeco has designed the complete process for receiving, repackaging and storing radioactive waste in this new storage facility. The overall process includes handling the waste (packaged in transport containers) from unloading the truck to placing the waste (in storage containers) into the MOG storage system.
Delmeco Consulting and Engineering Agency has designed, engineered and calculated the various installations. Delmeco Projecten is responsible for the production and installation of these systems, including the mechanical installation, electrical installation and automation.
The process installations supplied by Delmeco for the MOG-building include:
- Nuclear cranes with a capacity of 20 tonnes, in accordance with KTA;
- Grabs and spreaders for handling containers and drums;
- Shielded process doors/hatches with a thickness of up to 370 mm and a weight of up to 24 tonnes;
- Bunker doors with a weight of 80 tonnes;
- Bunker door frames with a weight of 12 tonnes;
- Trolleys for transporting containers up to 20 tonnes;
- Various manipulators;
- Lead glass window;
- Platforms;
- HVAC installation in accordance with ISO 17873.
Delmeco delivers a fully operational installation. This includes the installation of the required cable routes and cabling. Programming of the PLC control systems for the process installations, including testing and commissioning, is part of the overall scope. Parts of the various process installations have been welded and certified by Delmeco Projecten in accordance with ISO 3834-2 / EN ISO 5817.
Delmeco provides project management and coordination, working together with various parties, including the civil contractor, to manage the project.
The MOG project started in 2020 with pre-engineering. This was followed by detailed engineering, and to meet the overall schedule, manufacturing of the required equipment was initiated in parallel where possible. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2027 and ready to receive historical waste from NRG. During the course of the project, photos will be added to illustrate its progress.
