For Eagle LNG, Delmeco developed an advanced LNG Hose Transfer System, specifically designed for the bunkering of cruise ships such as the Icon of the Seas — the largest cruise ship in the world.
The system was built in our own workshop in the town of Goes in The Netherlands and successfully installed on the LNG bunkering vessel Coral Favia at the shipyard in Klaipėda, Lithuania.

The overhanging lifeboats on board cruise ships make it challenging to access the bunkering station located below. At the same time, bunkering operations are restricted to a very limited time window due to tight cruise ship schedules. To address this, Delmeco developed an innovative solution: a Hose Transfer System consisting of two hoses that allow the LNG hose and the vapour return hose to be positioned either separately or simultaneously.

The Hose Transfer System primarily consists of a crane that’s highly flexible in its possibilities combined, with multiple winches. This includes a hose winch, ERC (Emergency Release Coupling) winch, and coupling winch — used to position the LNG quick-connect coupling rapidly and precisely in front of the bunkering station. Thanks to this system, connecting and disconnecting takes only a few minutes — a crucial time saving within the tight planning window of LNG bunkering operations.

The system meets all required safety standards, including the ESD-1 and ESD-2 emergency shutdown functionalities. In addition, the crane complies with DNV guidelines for Shipboard Lifting Appliances. The entire system is ATEX Zone 2 certified, making it suitable for use in hazardous, potentially explosive environments. Operation is controlled by means of remote control, allowing the operator to manoeuvre safely and efficiently.

The scope of work — covering mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and automation — included:

  • Design and engineering of the LNG Hose Transfer System

  • Fabrication and assembly of the LNG crane

  • Integration of winch systems and controls

  • Execution of a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at our workshop

  • Installation and commissioning on board the Coral Favia bunkering vessel

Delmeco was responsible for delivering the complete turnkey LNG Hose Transfer System, including design, construction, installation, and certification.
